Yoga Tune-up: Adjustments to Deepen Practice for Teachers and Students

This workshop explores how to safely progress in Ashtanga asana from both the teacher’s and student’s perspectives. Together, we’ll look at how teachers can offer effective adjustments and modifications, and how students can better understand the intent behind each asana — allowing them to receive adjustments skillfully, self-adjust with awareness, or modify postures to find the right level of challenge for their own practice. We’ll work with poses from both the Primary and Intermediate Series, guided by the needs and interests of the group. Come with your curiosity and your questions — all are welcome, from beginners to seasoned practitioners.

Ujjayi Breath & Bandhas
recording available

Ujjayi breath is the rhythmic, ocean-like breath utilized in the Ashtanga practice, building heat in the body, while both calming the mind and energizing the practice. This diaphragmic breath adds a meditative quality and intensity to the practice, while strengthening the diaphragm over time to more seamlessly integrate the breath in the asana practice. In this workshop, we will explore diaphragmic breathing and cultivating the ujjayi breath, seated and in motion. We will also discuss the synergy of bandhas and breath, and practice how we can engage the bandhas in relationship with the ujjayi breath to bring the Ashtanga practice to new depths. A zoom link will be sent out before the event.
